Trauma
There are many ways trauma can leave a lasting impact.
Trauma has a way of lingering in your mind and body.
The effects of trauma can fester long since after the event had occurred. Physical ailments that you may feel are a sign the trauma you had experienced has festered in the body.
This could be in the way of stomach ache, headaches, ‘feeling’ in a frozen state, numb, a gut feeling, feeling panicky. Ultimately, the body does keep the score.
Sometimes, memories of trauma keep you stuck in life. Even when you are long since into adulthood, the trauma is kept alive in your mind.
If you are still living in the environment where trauma resulted, the slightest trigger can keep you in freeze mode. If you no longer live in that environment, you may find physical triggers and memories prevent you from developing into your authentic, conscious self.
When trauma has deep rooted itself in your body, it is often a sign those experiences have not been processed.
Such as if you hear a loud noise or loud voices, oftentimes that you’ll associate that with experiences from the past.
A few simple steps to recovery in the immediate moment include:
· Breathwork; take deep breaths
· Journal
· Go for a walk in nature
· Talk to a friend
